In this Blog post I am going to write about how to edit the company knowledge base using the System Center Operations Manager Console. System Center Operations Manager has a knowledge based feature build into the product. When a Alert is generated and you open the Alert you can read the “Product Knowledge” and the “Company Knowledge” to understand and respond to the alert.
Edit the Company Knowledge Base using the System Center Operations Manager Console.
- Make Sure that you have “Office Standard 2010 x86“
- Open the “System Center Operations Manager Console” and click the “Monitoring” tab and click “Active Alerts“
- Open a “Alert” in my case this will be “Memory Pages Per Second”
- On the “Alert Properties page on “Company Knowledge” click “Edit Monitor
- On the “Memory Pages per Second Properties” page click “Company Knowledge” and select a “Management Pack” that you want to use for your company knowledge
- When you selected a management pack you can click “Edit” and you will get the following error:
- Let’s install the Visual tools 2005 for Office runtime. You can download them here
- The installation of the “Visual Studio 2005 Tools for office Second Edition Runtime” is a straight forward in installation of “Next“, “I accept the terms of the license Agreement“, “Install” and “Finish“
- Let’s install the Visual tools 2010 for Office runtime. You can download them here
- The installation of the “Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for office Runtime 2010 Setup” is a straight forward in installation of “I have read and accept the license terms“, “Install” and “Finish“
- Restart the System Center Operation Manager Console and repeat the steps above except the installation of the “Visual Studio Tools“. You will get the following error:
- Replace the “Knowledge.dot” file found in “C:\Program Files\System Center 2012\Operations Manager\Console” with this Knowledge.dot. This informations can also be downloaded from the System Center: Operations Manager Engineering Blog
- Replace the “Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.Console.exe.config” file found in “C:\Program Files\System Center 2012\Operations Manager\Console” with this Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.Console.exe.config. This informations can also be downloaded from the System Center: Operations Manager Engineering Blog
- Start the “System Center Operations Manager Console” and repeat the steps above and the result look something like this
- Know you can edit you “Company Knowledge” when finished “Save” in Word. Click “Save in the “Available Megabyte of Memory Properties” and click “Close
- When you open the “Company Knowledge” on the generated alert it should look something like this:
